Our annual magnificent calendar

For the third consecutive year, the Jewish Community of Ulyanovsk has produced a beautiful calendar with many pictures of the happenings in our community.

The Jewish Calendar is very important for the Jewish Community, being that the months go by the moon and the year by the sun, which means the Hebrew dates do not coincide with the dates of the Gregorian calendar from year to year. Even more so, the Jewish Day begins at sunset which means the Jewish Holidays, will start in the evening not in the morning, and that the time of each holiday, or Shabbath will vary from city to city. Which is why it is so important for every single city to have its own calendar. For Example: at the eve of each and every Jewish Holiday and Shabbath it is customary for woman and girls to light the Shabbath Candles, the time to light will vary from day to day and from city to city, as one must light before sunset!

The theme of this years calendar is: Jewish Education. At the begining of the calendar we put a picture of every member of the board and a few words of greetings. The Governor of Ulyanovsk, Sergei Morozov, and Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar wrote words of greetings for our calendar.

We placed the Hebrew and Gregorian birthdays of all those who have donated charity to the Jewish Community throughout the year.

Much work was put into this calendar. Special thanks go to Rabbanit Sara for sorting all the pictures, the staff of the Jewish center for putting together all the birthdays, and of course, the editor in chief and religious advisory, Rabbi Yossi Marozov - Chief Rabbi of Ulyanovsk.
