On Sunday afternoon, the Ulyanovsk Jewish Community Center hosted a lively Purim celebration! The hall was filled to capacity with approximately 250 guests! As they entered the hall, they were given Mishloach Manos to exchange with their friends. Chief Rabbi of the Ulyanovsk region, Rabbi Yossi Marozov, read the Megillah as the participants listened attentively and joyously stamped their feet and rattled "groggers" each time the name Haman was read. After the Megillah reading, the crowd watched a video clip that was put together by the kindergarten children, enacting the Purim story. The crowd was enthralled as the kindergarten children, dressed in brighly colored clown costumes, performed "Chag Purim" in Russian, on stage. Laughter filled the air as the youth club performed a Purimshpiel comedy. The women's club outdid themselves in their presentation.
After the completion of the concert program, the guests were treated to a lavish and tasty buffet. The annual costume contest doubled in size this year! The guests were entertained by the Cossacks Band, who involved the crowd in their energy and enthusiasm. The crowd left on a high!
